The National Modeling & Simulation Coalition (NM&SC) was established to serve as an organization of organizations dedicated to promotion of Modeling and Simulation (M&S). It is a membership and simulation technology promotion organization serving industry, government, and academia. The Coalition focuses on expanding national awareness of social, economic, and technological benefits to be realized by broad application of M&S technologies, tools, & processes. Its intent is to serve the needs of all components of the modeling and simulation community of practice.
A strategic initiative is fostering and expanding strategic alliances and collaborations to promote Modeling & Simulation as a professional practice, as a recognized technical discipline, and as an industry. Coalition affiliates include AMSC, SCS, ACM SIGSIM, and SISO. Other significant efforts include, but are not limited to, leading proposals to include M&S Industry Codes within the North American Industry Classification System, and conducting simulation education campaigns for industry and members of the Congressional M&S Caucus.
A summary of the major accomplishments since its origination in February 2012, made possible through the hard work and dedication of the Policy Committee and its leadership, the staff, and the entire organization:
- The creation of a mission which focuses on “M&S for the Betterment of Society”; the adoption of the organizational core objective of “Advancing M&S as a National Imperative”; and, the sustainment of activity that supports Congressional declaration of M&S as a National Critical Technology
- Created and conducted annual National Meetings, held in coordination with annual Congressional M&S Leadership Summits, with recurring participation by national M&S advocates.
- Created a Business Advocacy Team within the Industrial Development/Business Practice Standing Committee, a collaboration of interested industry company representatives from many locations across the country. This team, working within the framework of the SimSummit organization, provided the topical agenda for the 1st three Congressional M&S Caucus meetings
These organizational accomplishments would not have been possible without the sustained and excellent support provided by our principal affiliate organization, the National Training & Simulation Association (NTSA).
Each year the Coalition conducts a National Meeting. Each event provides a forum for dialog across industry, government, academia and professional societies, with an agenda highlighting one ore more aspects of M&S having significant impact on industry, academia, and/or government. By raising public awareness, the Coalition strives to provide a central channel of communication in order to expedite and improve the national consideration of the many policies, regulations, problems, opportunities and questions of broad application involved in the modeling and simulation enterprise.
